Canine Good Citizen Certification Training

We are excited to offer training to prepare your dog for the
comprehensive Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Certification through the American Kennel Club (AKC).
This program is designed to prepare dogs for the AKC CGC test, ensuring they meet the highest standards of behavior, obedience, and socialization.

The CGC test is a standardized evaluation developed by the AKC to assess a
dog's obedience and social skills in various real-life situations.
It's a benchmark of good behavior and responsible pet ownership, and it's recognized nationally. Passing the CGC test is not only a testament to your dog's training but also a way of showcasing your commitment to being a responsible dog owner.

What the CGC test covers

The CGC test evaluates a dog's behavior and abilities in the following areas:

Accepting a Friendly Stranger:
Your dog should remain calm and well-mannered when meeting and interacting with a stranger.

Sitting Politely for Petting:
Dogs should allow strangers to pet them and exhibit no signs of fear, aggression, or overexcitement.

Appearance and Grooming:
Your dog should be able to tolerate being groomed and examined by a person other than their owner.

Out for a Walk:
This assesses your dog's leash walking skills, including walking on a loose leash without pulling.

Walking Through a Crowd:
Your dog should be able to move politely and calmly through a crowd without undue distraction or aggression.

Sit and Down on Command/Staying in Place:
This evaluates your dog's ability to follow basic obedience commands and maintain a stay.

Coming When Called:
Your dog should reliably come when called by their owner.

Reaction to Another Dog:
Your dog should exhibit polite and controlled behavior when encountering another dog.

Reactions to Distractions:
This section assesses your dog's behavior when exposed to common distractions.

Supervised Separation:
Dogs are evaluated for their behavior when left with a stranger while their owner is out of sight.

Why is the CGC Certification important?

Safety:
A well-behaved dog is less likely to pose a safety risk to people and other animals in various public settings.

Responsible Ownership:
Earning the CGC certification demonstrates responsible pet ownership, including proper training and socialization.

Opportunities:
CGC-certified dogs often have more opportunities for therapy work, assistance dog roles, and participating in dog-friendly events.

Improved Quality of Life:
CGC-trained dogs enjoy a higher quality of life with their owners because they are well-behaved and well-adjusted in various environments.
